Schwinn Recumbent Bike Reviews and Deals

by Owen

The Schwinn recumbent bike range really does ooze quality and craftsmanship. They all have wide and very comfortable seats, and the running/resistance mechanism is extremely quite – perfect for home use where you don’t want to disturb the entire house while you’re working out.

Schwinn have been in business since the late nineteenth century – that’s late 1800′s, so it would seem that they are a well structured and well managed company to do business with and buy products from, because if they’ve been around that long, they obviously have an eye on delivering quality products and looking after their customers. So if you’re looking for exercise bikes, the Schwinn recumbent exercise bike is worth a good look at.

Schwinn realized some time ago that they needed to focus their attention on what their potential customers were looking for, rather simply continuing blindly down the path of building traditional exercise bikes and home gym equipment. This redesign program resulted in the Schwinn recumbent bike range available today. The recumbent style of exercise bile is much better suited to a wider audience of people looking to get fit and improve their health – mainly because it’s easier on your back, much more comfortable due to the padded chair (as against the saddle on traditional exercise bikes), and easy to mount and dismount due to it’s low riding position.

There’s several models in the Schwinn recumbent bike range – including the 220, 240, 203 and 201 and the top of the range models the 230 and 231. Whichever model you go for, they all built with the same quality and craftsmanship levels and attention to detail. The Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bike is the top of this particular range, and consequently comes with the highest price tag – but you are getting what you pay for in the way of more features and superior comfort. For example you get 16 different resistance levels, adjustable and easy to read console, extra wide seat with dual position lumbar support, handlebars with heart rate grips, an inbuilt adjustable cooling fan and 10 pre set workout programs. The Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bike also has one of the easiest to read consoles in its class with a back light and BioConnect feedback display.

Having said all that, to me, the Schwinn 230 recumbent exercise bike doesn’t seem to be worth the extra money for what you get with the cheaper 203 model. The main difference is the quality of finish and a larger (and heavier) flywheel installed in the 230.

The seat itself is a work of art on the Schwinn recumbent exercise bike range – as well as the two position lumbar support, it has a super padded base for extra comfort, and adjusts both forwards and backwards, so regardless of how long or short your legs are, you should be able to find a comfortable riding position.

If you’re looking for a lower cost option, the 203 Schwinn recumbent bike is the entry level model. It still comes with a whole host of features, including 16 resistance settings (as per the 231 Schwinn recumbent bike), a selection of preset workout programs, a heart rate monitor and a fully featured console which monitors all the basic stats you will want to keep track of – like distance traveled, total elapsed time of current workout, heart rate and calories burned.
